The snow retreat was for Julia's birthday. We lined up and gave her kisses.

Rain + over-exhaustion meant no picture-taking today.

But I did get these three most adorable photos from [info]pill75 from the Ottawa feature back in December.

Thank you Bob Gill & poetsasylum.org for these great photos.

I have a microphone and a hat, and I know how to use them.

Hear me roar.

Someone complained that a microphone was in my face for most of the Ottawa set. Well here you go. Angle is everything. :)

The last of my Boston/Worcester/Providence/Poetry Tour updates, unless the rest of the photos from others come in.

After much effort to find the very special statue in downtown Worcester, a knowledgeable person guided me to him.

As you can see, the little boy is platonically "mounting" the turtle. Presumably to get ready for flying.

Oh little boy, I know better.

There is no need to be ashamed for your love of the turtle. Turtle-love is ok. As long as it is consenting. Did you ask the turtle before preparing to "mount"? More importantly, did you treat the turtle right first? Did you wine and dine? Take it out to a movie? Be interested in its turtle interests? Build up to this special moment?

Yes?

Then go ahead, little boy. Go ahead.

Should things proceed along and in future you should decide you would like to share your life with turtle, I know a priest and a rabbi in Toronto who perform animal marriages. Not normally animal-human, but I'm sure something can be arranged. May you be a shining flag to us all of what true love can be.

My 2 Week Trip In Pictures, Part 1: Ron

Magic Jill
Before the poetry, there was Ron. I visited a distant cousin whom I haven't seen since I was little, if at all. We'd been told by family that we're very similar so we must meet. So I went to Vermont to meet him. They were right. We are.

We surprisingly even look similar. We even have the same bizarre mix of eye colours, which you can sort of see if you zoom in.

A picture is worth 1000 words. Instead of me telling you all about the magic that was Ron & Cora's commitment ceremony that I went to July 30 in Vancouver, here are 6000 words worth of description.

I'm glad I'm not in any of them. I was sick as a dog that day.

Unfortunately my friend's phone camera started taking only thumbnail shots. Squint for full effect.

Satori found a cow on a wall that said something
to the effect of "Vegan Cow" or "Go Veg", and I
was wearing a Veg shirt so I posed in front of
it. [Edit: It said "Got Milk?" which was
graffittied there by [info]octopodes :D ]

All dolled up 80's-like and nowhere to go. Wait....
that was taken at the 80's prom. (Prom consisting
entirely of slam poets. Best thing evar.)

Moments of amazingness I want to mention:

  • Jim: All the time spent with Jim, [info]iom_psinso, my bestest Salt Lake bud (next to Sean, of course) -- whom I also saw! There will be another entry for my bus trip #2 of 3, another time. But yes, I've been talking to Jim a lot since leaving SLC, so it was most wonderful to connect in person. He's a friend for life, that one. :D

  • Prom: There was a "prom." It was the best prom EVAR. Partly because it was a room full of the outcasts from high school, just like me. Don't be fooled, even the coolest of performance poets were with 95% probability the source of derision in high school. So, unlike regular high school, I fit right in. ;) Partly because it was an 80's theme, and I did a kick-arse job of dressing up. The hair, the make-up, the single glove, the tight tank top, the shimmery tu-tu skirt. And lastly but not leastly, because in my line-up of people asking to be my date, I chose the hottest one. It was a good choice. [info]urbanitus made for a hella fun and uber sweet date.

  • Satori: I was in a house about half an hour from all the action that one of the poets let a bunch of girls stay in. I really connected with one of them, and am so glad we're keeping in touch, [info]satoribee

  • The bouts: Getting to cheer on my Salt City Slam team homies, at both their bouts. After having watched them closely since near inception, it was with much pride that I supported them in their bouts. My favourite part was the face of each one after they had their moment in the spotlight, the moment they'd been working so hard for for over half a year.

  • Poets: Hanging with poetry people in general. These are my people. Right from the first night, even though I was overexhausted from bus travel, I was happy Jill. Outgoing Jill. Made many new friends, was in my element, wagged my tail a lot.

  • Bats: The bats! Oh the bats! Like fireworks exploding into the sky, every night over a million bats emerge from under Congress Bridge. Unfortunately, it wasn't until the very last night that [info]satoribee and I found out about it, and the bats had exploded early before we got there, but we did get to watch the slow trickle for about 20 minutes. NPS will be in Austin again next year. It will be my goal to make it to a beginning explosion. Oh yes.

Get Real
On the way back from the Salmon Slam, my previously-broken and still-mending foot was being all owie, so I was being all whiny about having to walk.

Look! Look at the foot! Look at it!

So my men, Kyle ([info]mallinson - in the sunglasses) and....some other guy....carried me for a ways, in a procession like a queen.

My true nature, at last, was honoured!
Critical Mass
I've been doing some of the Critical Masses here in Salt Lake City. Yesterday's was my favourite. Good weather brings out more people, good spirits and great conversation. I made more new friends at this one than all the SLC Crit Mass's combined.

The cyclists are coming!

I just found my pic from my reading in Providence, RI from a week ago! Woo! That was *such* a great night. The audience was so receptive I got laughs in places I didn't know were funny. ;)

I wanted to comment on the pic and let them know that I am not, indeed, Linda, but I am the name they used to refer to me earlier in the post.

To do that I had to make a profile on gotpoetry.com.  Which means I have _yet another_ page in the internet universe with me all over it. If you google me, most of what comes up is me. I am taking over tha interweb !!!!  I'm an internet whore.

Cross Country Train Trip Photos!

Yep, I'm crazy. It's been a dream of mine to take a train trip across both Canada and the U.S. Last week, from April 5-7, I got to do my American dream. I rode from Providence, RI to Salt Lake City, UT.

It took me all day, but here I have whittled 110 photos to the best 51 and put together a gallery for you. It's 4 pages of LJ Scrapbook gallery, but if you want to skip ahead to the shots that made the whole trip worthwhile, go to pages 3 & 4. Two pages of the last half day. lol

First, a few teaser photos. ;)

Come take a trip with me across the country ...
Caution!
Last week, I flew to Providence, RI to see my friend Ryk get married! I spent a few more days in the area after that, since I'd not been to Rhode Island before.

Melissa ([info]rainbows27) and Ryk ([info]theryk), newlyweds! So happy at their reception. "Down with white at weddings!"

Next up: Photos from the 3-day train trip!

8th(??) Annual Oscars Party

  • Mar. 5th, 2006 at 11:35 PM
genius or madness

I threw my (almost) annual Oscars party here in Salt Lake City tonight, inviting my new peeps.

It was a costume/potluck party in a friend's warehouse home, with a big screen projector.

We played two games: One was the annual "guess the winners" game, and the other was a cute addition which wound up being the hit of the party, that we found at this party store. A star on each person's back, each one containing the name of an actor/actress. Each person could ask yes and no questions to figure out who they were.

We had a few other little nice touches....

Oscars: Plates and cups
Oscars: My costume

It was a great time! Much unlike the Toronto folk, the people around here are really not into Hollywood stuff (just like me ;) but they played along and had a blast.

Art Walk on President's Day

Art Matters
So they have this funny reason for a day off here -- President's Day. Sssshhhush about our Queen Victoria Day, mmk? :P

Sean may have taken the day off anyway, getting better from the horrible sickness we both had. We were feeling better enough to venture outside today. We went on a photography art walk, which I've been dying to do since I arrived. Here are those we captured today.
